Being informed plays a vital part in taking corrective action…
The police are investigating me, do I have to cooperate and talk to them?
- No one can force you to cooperate, and you should not speak to anyone without consulting a lawyer first. I am happy to discuss your options as part of a consultation even before you retain me. More often than not, talking to any law enforcement without counsel will result in charges and evidence that will be used against you.
What if I haven't done anything wrong?
- You still don't need to talk to anyone without consulting a lawyer first. If after consulting with me, we decide it is in your interest to talk, I will accompany you to talk to law enforcement so I can protect your rights.
What if the police want me to agree to let them search my home or vehicle?
- Do not agree or consent to any search. If they have real probable cause, they may obtain a search warrant, which they will have to provide you a copy of.
How do you decide whether you will take my case?
- I look at many cases. Unfortunately, I am not able to help all of the people who ask for and need my help. I look at each case individually as it comes in and consider the case. If I believe that I can be of service to you, I will take the case. Sometimes, if I am unable to help you, I know of other lawyers who can help and I will refer you to them.
How much will you charge me to work on my case?
- Each case is different and depends upon the severity of the charges and the work involved. I will in certain circumstances arrange for short payment plan, if we are able to agree upon one. In any situation, we sign a contract so that our understanding of our respective obligations is clear.
How long will it take to dispose of my case?
- Each court in the United States differs in the time it takes to resolve a case and also depends upon the circumstances of each individual case.
What do I need to know if I have been charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI/DUI)?
- This is a complex subject, please see the answers here.
